The finely ground lime has it's problems. If you spread it on a windy day it ends up flying elsewhere in a hurry. Here the birds arrive on just such a day to help us illustrate this! First it lifts off the ground...

then it soars off into the wind!

It's also difficult to spread in the dark by flashlight. And it tends to get into every nook and cranny it can find including the knurl knob of the camera and of course under the masks and up our noses. Alas it also doesn't spread well with the type of gizmo we bought either.
On a dark stormy day we resort to simpler means...
liming
One tin can, a couple of thousand pounds of lime. Sort of fun if you can keep track of where you've been.
measuring
Here's how we'll measure it out. We'll use a peice of conduit that is ten feet long laying it down in each of the directions as we spread the lime. It's just a matter of a few frantic calculations to figure out how much to put down for the area marked out.
Grove limed
Remarkably precise considering! We manage to cover all the area with just the needed amount of lime.
In the end the Grove is limed and there are just the bags to bring down. And so, we head down with them...

the trip down
to our studio!

As we go I wonder about all this. It seems unnatural to me to be bringing in large quantities of material from distant places. I had thought we could work using just what was here. I wonder what it's effect will be on some of the wild plants that make their home in the Grove. Still though most of what I've learned thus far indicates it's necessity for the trees on this sandy soil. If I could perceive the energies here better perhaps I'd know what else to do instead. As the saying goes, sometimes what you lack in your head you have to make up for with your feet.
There were more of the usual preparations of course.

We complete them just in time!
