Here we are having just marked the spot for a tree hole. Next, we begin to place the fence around this years planting. It is better to do this before the trees arrive so that when we put them in we won't have to worry about protecting them from being eaten between planting days.
A few days later we begin digging the holes. (please click here to hear the sound of digging). Sometimes we pause to rest and watch the sunset.
And here is the new planting ready to go. Well almost anyway; the fence still has to be put up and the water system set up to bring over water for the planting.
With the fence up, it is time to plant! Here we've heeled in the trees, covering up the roots with earth so they won't dry out. Some of the trees
were treated badly. The tree is five feet tall; it's roots were trimmed to 4 inches and it was packaged improperly allowing air to get to the roots in shipping.
I really dislike seeing living things treated in this way.
Let's begin!
